Numbers 35
As we have been examining the Law of Moses (or more precisely the Law of God given through Moses), I have been amazed at what it reveals about God's compassion. God cares for the people who are often ignored or despised--women, strangers, and the poor. God cares about all His creation.
In Numbers 35 we see how God scattered the Levites throughout the entire nation, so that no matter where you lived you wouldn't be far from a priest. Today God is scattering His people all over the world and sending them into strategic places. Pastor Jon Courson said:
“The Lord has snuck His servants into the most amazing places. He sneaks Christian teachers into high schools to be…secret agents...He sneaks Christian salesmen, secretaries, and accountants into the workplace to be examples of what it means to be a believer."
Where has the Lord sent you? Into your neighborhood? At your workplace? How can you be a "secret agent" for Him?
We also see that God established six cities of refuge so that the person guilty of unintentional manslaughter could be safe from the "avenger of blood." God's compassion reached out to these people also. As long as they remained in the city, they would be protected.
In a similar way, we have all sinned and are worthy of judgment and death. If the devil had his way, he would take us out. But we have found our refuge in Christ. He cleanses us from our sins and delivers us from all condemnation. Have you made Him your refuge?
