Leviticus 6

“Through this process, the priest will purify you before the LORD, making you right with him, and you will be forgiven for any of these sins you have committed.” (Leviticus 6:7 (NLT)

Having listed the five offerings, the LORD now gives the various laws on how they were to be presented. Keep in mind that Leviticus is a kind of owner’s manual for the priests in how to do tabernacle worship. Also remember that all five of these offerings were fulfilled in Jesus Christ. We are the joyous recipients of the work that Christ accomplished on the cross. We are not right, but God has made provision for us if we will confess our sins and accept Christ’s provision for them. How often should we confess? As often as we become aware of sin. Then after confessing and turning, we appropriate the forgiveness we have through Christ’s blood.

When I taught our church through Leviticus, I prepared a chart based upon the book “Thus Shalt Thou Serve” by C.W. Slemming. This goes through each of the five offerings, their nature, the offerer’s work, the priest’s work, God’s portion, the priest’s portion, and the offer’s portion. It also looks at Christ’s fulfillment and our life application. Here it is: The Five Levitical Offerings.

As you study this, you realize how costly and how much effort it took to be put right with God. Sin was no trivial thing. There was the constant reminder that the reward of sin is death. But in Jesus Christ, God has put away all these sacrifices. Jesus paid it all!

“For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.” (Hebrews 10:14, NKJV)

Let’s spend some time today thanking God for the incomparable gift He has given us in Christ!
