Exodus 3:1-12
“Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” (Exodus 3:10, NKJV)
God's calling is a great mystery. Clearly, Moses was set apart from birth. Extraordinary circumstances saved him from the king's edict to kill the Hebrew baby boys. Then he was raised in Pharaoh's household. But it wouldn't be until Moses was eighty years old that he would discover his calling in no uncertain terms.
God hand-selected Moses to deliver the children of Israel. Moses did not feel qualified. That is often true of the men and women God uses. In fact, if you feel qualified, then you probably aren't! Whereas Moses felt qualified earlier in life, now he stuttered and felt he wasn't the right man for the job. He didn't want to go. But God called him anyway. Moses said, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” But it didn't matter who Moses was or wasn't, because God would be with him.
This is true of each one of us. It doesn't matter who we are; what matters is who God is and what He has called us to do. We can rest in the blessed assurance that if God has called us, then He will bring it to pass…if we surrender to Him.
But sometimes certain things hold us back. Moses held on to his thoughts of inferiority, and it hindered him. Is there something you are holding on to that hinders you from saying “Yes” to God? Let it go! Or perhaps something has you in its grip. Jesus said that whoever sins is a slave of sin. But you can bring this to the Lord and ask Him to forgive, cleanse, and set you free so that you may serve Him. This is where the journey begins.
What is God calling you to do? Have you taken the first step?
