Ezekiel 29:17-30:19

“‘I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor, because they worked for Me,’ says the Lord GOD.” (Ezekiel 29:20, NKJV)

God raised up King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and called him “My servant” even before he knew the LORD. He was God’s instrument to judge many nations, including Judah. In 586 BC, God said that he would bring Nebuchadnezzar against Tyre from the north (Ezekiel 26:7). One year later Nebuchadnezzar laid siege against the Phoenician coastal city for 13 years. But during this time Tyre moved her wealth and the wealthy and nobles of the city to the island of Tyre, which was half a mile off the coast. So when Nebuchadnezzar conquered the city, he had little spoils to pay his army. The soldiers’ heads were rubbed bare because of wearing helmets and their shoulders were raw from carrying wood and stone for building siege works. Nebuchadnezzar and his men had worked hard for the LORD but received little payment. Therefore, God promised to give Nebuchadnezzar the land of Egypt for all his efforts.

If we work for the Lord, then we never need to worry about getting paid. God will always make a way, because He won’t be a debtor to anyone. Jesus declared that the laborer is worthy of his wages (Luke 10:7). God faithfully rewards those who faithfully serve Him.

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:9–10, NKJV)

God doesn’t miss a thing. He knows all our works and rewards us far better than we deserve! So how can we serve Him today?
