Numbers 28:1-15

We talk about having a Sunday morning "worship" service. We say that we are entering into "worship". We call our song service "worship". But what is worship? Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well:

“You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:22–24, NKJV)

Worship should be the one thing we do that is purely for the LORD. God makes it clear in Numbers 28-29 that worship is for Him. Under the Old Covenant, they worshiped the LORD through the prescribed animal sacrifices, grain and drink offerings. These came up before God as a "sweet aroma". Under the New Covenant, we worship the LORD with sincere and Spirit-filled hearts. Our worship is about drawing near to God with our whole hearts and not merely with our words. It's not about location but about sanctification. It's not so that we can get "warm fuzzies" but so that Christ may be glorified and God may be pleased.

However you choose to worship--whether through songs, prayers, meditation or acts of service--remember that it is all for God. It's not so much what we bring but that we bring it with a loving and sincere heart for God alone.
