Numbers 31:25-54

There are moments when all I can do is to praise God. I am overwhelmed with His goodness. When I consider the portion I have received from Him, it is so much greater than what I deserve. And I am speechless.

The children of Israel had been God's instrument to judge the Midianites. In so doing they brought back the spoils of war. But how would it be divided? Would it all go to the men who fought? Would it be divided equally among the entire congregation? Wise decisions needed to be made and the booty distributed equitably. The LORD told Moses how to do it. Those who fought would receive half, and the rest of the congregation would receive the other half. A portion would be given to the priests and Levites from the soldiers and congregation respectively. In these detailed instructions, God showed Himself just, generous and compassionate. No one was overlooked, and each one received in proportion to what he had done.

We like to say that we cannot out-give God. It is true, because whatever we give to the Lord from a sincere heart, He gives back to us "pressed down and running over." His blessings may be financial, relational or spiritual, but He always gives abundantly in proportion to what we give.

God has given us wonderful promises to encourage us to be faithful:

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9, NKJV)

“But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” (Hebrews 13:16, NKJV)

I would like to make a prediction. I predict that if you will devote yourself to serving God and others, and to being generous with your time, energy and substance, that the day will soon come when you will be overwhelmed with His grace and blessings. And you will praise Him for giving you far more than you deserve!
