Mark 4:35-5:20
“Go home to your friends and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” (Mark 5:19, NKJV)
Consider the life of the man on the shore of the Sea of Galilee who was possessed with a legion of demons. He was a social menace, and no one knew what to do with him. He lived in the tombs on a mountain overlooking the sea. They bound him with shackles and chains, but with superhuman strength he pulled them apart. He wandered about naked, crying out night and day, and cutting himself with stones. It is difficult to imagine a more miserable specimen. And yet beneath the wild and frightening exterior, he was a man who was made in the image of God. When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran to Him and fell at His feet.
“What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Do not torment me!”
The demons were terrified. When Jesus commanded them to come out, they begged Him to go into a herd of 2,000 swine. Jesus granted permission, and they entered the herd. Then the swine ran violently down the steep place and drowned in the sea.
A little later, the man was sitting, clothed, and in his right mind. He begged Jesus to go with Him into the boat, but Jesus would not let him. Instead, He told him to tell everyone what great things God had done for him.
Think back to who you were before you encountered Jesus. You were not likely a raging lunatic, but you were lost, shackled by your sins, and separated from God. You were dwelling among the spiritually dead. Where would you be today without Him?
Each person on our missionary team going to Romania is required to write a two-minute testimony of how God has changed our lives. Then we share this with the entire group. Every time I hear someone tell their story it builds my faith in Christ and in His compassion. Each story is unique, for God reaches each of us in different ways.
When was the last time you shared with someone the great things God has done for you? Let us begin by writing this down and then praying for God to give us as opportunity to share our story. You will be amazed to see how God uses this to draw others to Christ.
