The Finger in the Chest

Episode 2

After the LORD delivered the children of Israel out of the bondage of Egypt, He led them to Mount Sinai. There He entered into a covenant with them and gave them His Law. He also revealed to Moses the plans for the tabernacle. This is where God would dwell among His people. It would be constructed with gold, silver and bronze, blue, purple and scarlet thread, fine linen, and other items.

The LORD said to Moses:

“Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering.” (Exodus 25:2)

God gave the congregation the opportunity to participate in His sanctuary. But He only wanted them to give willingly—in other words without pressure or coercion.

Now before all this, God told them to go to their Egyptian neighbors and ask them for articles of silver and gold, and clothing. And the Egyptians gave them what they requested. (Exodus 12:35-36) The point is that God didn’t ask them to give what they didn’t have; He only asked them to give from what He had already given them.

As we embark on this building project, we know it is a venture of faith, but we are excited to see what God will do!
