Psalm 108
“Give us help from trouble, for the help of man is useless. Through God we will do valiantly, for it is He who shall tread down our enemies.” (Psalm 108:12–13, NKJV)
Last night we had a wonderful time of Worship and Prayer. Our entire Romania Mission Team of seventeen was present to worship the LORD and receive prayer. Pastor Justin shared about the spiritual warfare we can expect and the need to always trust in the LORD with all our hearts. It is God who fights our battles.
David was a warrior. His psalms were often prayers that God would defeat his enemies. But David also expressed His passionate love for the LORD. He delighted in giving God thanks and praising Him before the people of Israel and among the nations. David knew that Yahweh was not only the God of Israel but also of all the inhabitants of the world. He did not have the myopic view of many people that their religion is for them alone. The LORD desires that all nations worship Him. One day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11).
David cried out to the LORD in times of trouble and always found Him faithful. God had delivered him from his enemies and even given him power over them. David knew that it had been the LORD who strengthened him for battle and led him to victory. If God had done it once, then He would do it again. David had learned not to trust in the help of man who is fickle. Neither did he trust in the military weapons of horses, chariots, spears, and arrows. David knew that unless the LORD fought for them, they battled in vain. But with God’s help they could do valiantly and defeat any foe.
What trouble are you facing today? Maybe it is a chronic problem with your health. Maybe it is a besetting sin from which you cannot break free. Or perhaps you are facing external challenges that try your faith and overwhelm you. How desperate are you? How much do you want God to intervene? Bring your problem to God and thank Him that He is greater than your problem. Then pray earnestly that God will either remove the problem or give you the grace to overcome it. There is nothing that our God cannot do. And we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Do you believe this?
