Matthew 21:1-17
“Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise’?” (Matthew 21:16, ESV)
Yesterday at church we celebrated Christmas. The highlight was when all the children came down the aisle during the last worship song and performed a couple of songs of their own. There is something so beautiful about children singing songs to Jesus! I spoke about God’s revelation of the Advent of His Son hundreds and thousands of years before He was born. At the end of my message, I gave opportunity for people to receive Jesus. During the last service, several children raised their hands. I then led everyone in prayer, and I could hear children throughout our tent repeating my words. How beautiful to hear little children ask Jesus to come into their hearts to live for Him!
And I remembered Christ’s words…
“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:2–4, ESV)
I asked the people who received Christ at every service to come forward so that we could pray with them. At the end of the last service, while people started leaving, a boy and girl who had raised their hands came up to me for prayer. They are siblings, and their father told me that the boy wants to become a pastor. So I told the boy, “We will need to talk more about this.”
We must all become like children…
Cindy and I are looking forward to our children and grandchildren coming over on Christmas night to open presents. What joy fills their hearts and is expressed in their faces as they unwrap their colorful gifts! My prayer for us is that we would all become like little children and approach this season with the same wonder, joy, and expectation as a child. Today is a gift from God to be unwrapped. Let us see what is inside and give God all the glory!
