Esther 6:12-7:10

“Esther replied, ‘This wicked Haman is our adversary and our enemy.’” (Esther 7:6, NLT)

There is probably no more dramatic book of the Bible than Esther, and this verse is the climax. Unbeknownst to the king, he had signed the death warrant for his own wife and her people. In his pride and hatred, Haman had plotted to destroy both Queen Esther and Mordecai, the Jew who had stopped the king’s assassination attempt. The king felt betrayed and probably humiliated for allowing himself to be duped by Haman. Throughout this entire “drama” we see the invisible hand of God working providentially. We see divine justice promoting the righteous and deposing the wicked.

We don’t always see God’s justice work so swiftly or completely in this life. This is what makes the book of Esther so special. But even when we don’t see such speedy vengeance on the wicked and vindication of the righteous, we must believe that God’s justice is still at work. His wrath is revealed against the ungodliness and unrighteousness of people. His curse settles on the unbelieving. But His greatest blessings are kept for the faithful. In short, we all reap what we sow.

Maybe you are now in a waiting period. You have cried out to God for help but nothing seems to be happening.

“As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.” (Ecclesiastes 11:5, NIV)

But one thing we do know…He makes everything beautiful in His time (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
