Proverbs 30:1-16

“Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.” (Proverbs 30:5–6, NKJV)

We all share a common trait: we tend to sin. Our natural bent is to please ourselves regardless of what others say. We are stranded and stuck in our situation until we encounter the truth that sets us free. But where can we find this truth? Only in the pure word of God. It alone can cleanse and change us.

“You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.” (John 15:3, NKJV)

This is why I make it my goal to meditate on it daily. It cleanses my soul as a shower cleanses my body.

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” (Hebrews 4:12, NLT)

Because the pure word of God is complete in itself, we don’t need anything else. We just need to expose ourselves to it and let the Holy Spirit use it to cut away areas of sin. We should never add to it. We should just trust in God and do what He says. Then He will be a shield to us and protect us from inward corruption and outward temptation. But we must meditate on His word day and night.

“Father, thank you for giving us such a pure and life-changing word. Help us to cherish it today and give it time to work in our hearts. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.”
