Ezekiel 45

Oct 17, 2024    Pastor Daryl Zachman

“In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, you shall observe the Passover, a feast of seven days; unleavened bread shall be eaten. And on that day the prince shall prepare for himself and for all the people of the land a bull for a sin offering.” (Ezekiel 45:21–22, NKJV)

The millennial reign of Christ will be an extraordinary time when the wolf dwells with the lamb, the leopard lies down with a young goat, the calf and young lion live together, and a child will lead them (Isaiah 11:6). But above all, the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea (Isaiah 11:9). David will be the prince, and the Lord Jesus Christ will sit on the throne in Jerusalem as the Lion of the tribe of Judah. He will rule the nations with a rod of iron, and His saints will rule with Him.

The people who make it through the Great Tribulation and witness the Second Coming will be judged by Christ to see if they are worthy to enter the kingdom age (Matthew 25:31-46). Children will be born, and the lifespan will be extended so that a person who dies at one hundred years old will be considered to be only a child (Isaiah 65:20).

But sins will still be committed and sin offerings will still be offered in the temple. Passover will be observed, and the prince (David) will prepare for himself and for all the people a bull for a sin offering. Why will this be necessary when Jesus paid it all on the cross? Evidently, the future offerings will be a memorial pointing back to the cross as the offerings of the Old Covenant pointed forward to the cross.

It is always good for us to be reminded of what it cost Jesus to forgive us of our sins. This is why we regularly take communion together. We are proclaiming the wonder and efficacy of the Lord’s death until He comes. After He comes we will continue to worship Him for all that He did to redeem us from our sins.

Let’s begin the day by giving the Lord thanks for bearing the punishment of our sins so that we could be forgiven and have peace with God for eternity!
