Psalm 119:121-144
“It is time for the LORD to act, for your law has been broken.” (Psalm 119:126, ESV)
Yesterday we did a Vacation Bible School in the Roma village of Budila, Romania. We had a total of about 70 children in four sessions. I taught the story of the rich, young ruler who came to Jesus and said, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” (Mark 10:17) Jesus said, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but one—that is God.” I asked the children, “Why do you think Jesus said this? It is because we have all sinned. Sin is anything we think, say, or do that breaks God’s law and makes Him sad.” We could never do enough good deeds to inherit eternal life. We must receive salvation as a gift by believing in Jesus Christ.
Sometimes we look at the world around us in despair because of its brokenness. Everywhere we see the results of sin in ruined relationships. The greatest tragedy is that man’s relationship with God has been severed. But God has made a way for us to be reconciled through our brokenness and the salvation provided at the cross.
“The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” (Psalm 34:18, NKJV)
Jesus did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance (Matthew 9:13). Have we thought, said or done anything to break God’s law? Have we grieved the Holy Spirit? Then the Gospel is for us. Jesus died to forgive us, and His blood is sufficient to wash away all our sins. But the Gospel is also for others who have broken His commandments and are dealing with the consequences of pain, shame and blame. Yes, it is time for God to act, but He acts as we step out in faith and share the Good News with others who need to know that God loves them, and that He wants to have an everlasting relationship with them.
