Psalm 135

Jul 21, 2025    Pastor Daryl Zachman

“For I know that the LORD is great, and our Lord is above all gods. Whatever the LORD pleases He does, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deep places.” (Psalm 135:5–6, NKJV)

Why do we worship the LORD? Because there is no one else like Him. He created all things. He governs the universe. He is the only true God.

The psalmist reveals the remarkable feats of the LORD in creation, in judgments, and in giving military victory to His chosen ones. There is nothing He cannot do. Who is like Him?

He existed long before we were born, and He will continue long after we die. Time has no claim on Him. His fame endures throughout all generations.

What a contrast between the LORD and idols. What are the idols of this age? Who are the gods people are worshiping today? Many things take the place of God as their master passion—money, power, sex, popularity, knowledge, politics, and religion. But these idols to which they sacrifice their time and money are lifeless and powerless. They cannot help them in the day of trouble, sickness, disaster or death.

Are we in danger of letting something come between us and the LORD? The idol we are most vulnerable to is SELF.

The best way to keep ourselves from idols is to magnify the LORD. The more we meditate on His greatness, power, love and truth, the more we praise Him for His wonderful works, the less we will be attracted to the Cracker Jack toys of this world.

“Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together!” (Psalm 34:3, NKJV)
