Psalm 2-3

“Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.” (Psalm 2:12, NKJV)

In Acts 4, the Sanhedrin sternly warned Peter and John not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. But they responded:

“Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:19–20, NKJV)

Then they went home to their companions and reported everything that had happened. When the church heard this, they raised their voice to God in one accord and said “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them.” Then they quoted from Psalm 2, attributing it to David.

“Why did the nations rage, and the people plot vain things? The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ.” (Acts 4:25–26, NKJV)

They understood that the things they were witnessing had been prophesied by David in this messianic psalm. The rulers of this world resist God and refuse to bow the knee to His Anointed One. But the One who sits in the heavens laughs, for He sees their destruction in the day of wrath. God has set His King on the holy hill of Zion. He will receive the nations as His inheritance. He will rule over them with a rod of iron.

Therefore, the only reasonable response for any of us is to serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling (v. 11). We must kiss the Son while there is still time, lest He become angry. This refers to the practice of kissing the hand of your sovereign as a sign of submission and affection. Everyone who puts their trust in Him will be blessed.

We must prioritize our worship of our King and Sovereign Jesus Christ. Before we do anything else today, let us “kiss the Son”. A.W. Tozer said, “I am of the opinion that we should not be concerned about working for God until we have learned the meaning and the delight of worshipping Him.”
