Psalm 119:25-48
“My soul clings to the dust; revive me according to Your word.” (Psalm 119:25, NKJV)
It is humbling to think that we are made from dust. From the dust of the ground God formed man and breathed into him the breath of life so that he became a living being (Genesis 2:7). But when Adam sinned, he died spiritually. His soul clung to the dust rather than to the spirit. This brought forth fear and separation from God and division between man and woman. This is the natural state of people born under the curse of sin and death.
But when we are born again, God breathes His Spirit into our soul to reanimate our spirit. He gives us new life to make us a new creation. The old things pass away, and everything becomes new (2 Corinthians 5:17). God desires that we continue living this new life in the Spirit, bearing the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy and peace. However, sometimes our soul clings to the old dust. We walk according to the flesh rather than according to the Spirit. We need to be revived. We need a fresh infusion of the Spirit. We need to be quickened to live after the Spirit and be heavenly minded rather than to live after the flesh and be earthly minded.
This is certainly the need for the church today! Too many believers are clinging to the dust of death rather than being filled with the Spirit’s life, power and love. But how are we to be revived? It only occurs through the Word of God. In fact, revival has been described as the Spirit of God coming upon the people of God through the Word of God.
Folks, we are dust-clingers no more. Let us believe God for a fresh work of His Spirit and pray accordingly. Let us make personal study of the Word our priority. We are here for such a time as this!
