Psalm 145
“The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.” (Psalm 145:18, NKJV)
At times God seems distant. Life’s circumstances overwhelm and threaten to crush us. We lose sight of God because humanity and sin are ever before us, filling our field of view. David had a wonderful ability to pierce through the fog to the majestic throne of His God and King. As David exalted the name of the LORD his own spirit was lifted, his vision enlightened, and his strength renewed. No wonder he made it his ambition to praise the Lord forever and ever. And every time we recite one of David’s psalms, we prove that his wish was granted. One generation praises His works to another.
“The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy.” (Psalm 145:8, NKJV)
David knew the LORD intimately. Much time spent meditating on His Word and seeking His face gave David the knowledge one has of a close friend. Even when David failed, he knew that God did not deal with him as his sins deserved. He is gracious, giving us the good that we do not deserve, for He is great in mercy.
It is such knowledge of the LORD’s majesty and mercy that keeps us coming back repeatedly. And each time we do, we find that He welcomes us into His fellowship. He is near to everyone who calls upon Him in truth.
When circumstances and people make us feel like we don’t want to praise the Lord, that is when we need to praise Him the most. Praise Him for His attributes. Praise Him for His actions. Praise Him because that is what we were created to do. Let all His works give Him praise, for He is worthy of it all!
