Psalm 17

“As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.” (Psalm 17:15, ESV)

Satisfaction is an elusive thing. In 1965, Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones sang, “I can’t get no satisfaction.” And with all our affluence and technology, people are still unsatisfied. They have tried everything the world has to offer, but it leaves them feeling empty, anxious and depressed. Young people die at alarming rates from homicides, drug overdoses, car accidents and suicides. Our problem is that we were created to know God, and we will never find meaning or fulfillment in life apart from a personal relationship with Him.

David saw the wicked, and he wanted nothing to do with them. They were violent, deceitful, heartless, and their only reward was in this world. But David had kept to the Lord’s path and sought refuge in Him. His hope was not in this world but in seeing the Lord’s face in righteousness. One day he would wake up in the Lord’s presence, and then he would be fully satisfied.

Have you found your satisfaction in the Lord alone? Until you find contentment in Him, no amount of money, power, sex or drugs will quench the thirst of your soul and the hunger of your heart. Ultimate satisfaction is being with Him and becoming like Him.

“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.” (1 John 3:2–3, NKJV)
