Isaiah 43:1-13

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” (Isaiah 43:1–2, ESV)

Once I heard a pastor say that his favorite name for the Lord is “Redeemer”. The reason? Christ buys us back from our slavery to sin, and He redeems our failures for our good and His glory.

God chose Israel to be His special treasure, not because of their goodness, but because of His grace. He revealed Himself to them, not because they were deserving, but because He set His love on them. He brought them out of the bondage of Egypt and into the Promised Land because they were His children. He knew them by name as we know our own children by name. Therefore, He would never leave them nor forsake them. This promise extends to all who believe in Jesus Christ.

“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’” (Hebrews 13:5–6, ESV)

If we pass through the floodwaters of fear, He is with us; if we cross swift rivers of opposition, they will not overwhelm us; if we walk through fiery trials and temptations, we will not be burned. The One who gave His only Son to redeem us from all our sins will never let us go, for we belong to Him. He is carrying us in His everlasting arms, and He won’t let us fall.

Only trust in Him with all your heart, submitting to Him in childlike humility.
