Psalm 144

Oct 16, 2023    Pastor Daryl Zachman

“Happy are the people who are in such a state; happy are the people whose God is the LORD!” (Psalm 144:15, NKJV)

Greetings from Africa! This is the third day Nicu and I have been in Uganda. Our team traveled today to the “Farm” where we begin a pastors’ conference tomorrow (Monday). This literally is a 500-acre farm that also has a school with over 400 students. They expect 700 senior pastors to be here!

We are divided into two groups. Half of us are at the Farm this week and half are at the Chaplaincy training compound in South Sudan. Then next week we trade places.

On Saturday night we had a debriefing with Wes Bentley. He told us of the many dangers the people have faced in Uganda and especially in South Sudan. But then he said, “Obedience to the Lord is the best safety net.” In other words, when you are doing what God has called you to do, you don’t need to fear because you are in His hand. He will protect you until He takes you home. These are comforting words, and they agree with what David tells us in Psalm 144.

“My lovingkindness and my fortress, my high tower and my deliverer, my shield and the One in whom I take refuge, who subdues my people under me.” (Psalm 144:2, NKJV)

Because we have a full schedule from morning to evening, and because I will be teaching 7 times in the next two weeks, I won’t be able to write much in these daily devotionals. But I will do my best to share some updates from the field. May God richly bless you and keep you in His grip!

P.S. Thank you so much for all your prayers! We feel them!
