Proverbs 16:1-16
“Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established.” (Proverbs 16:3, NKJV)
What have you committed to the Lord? Ten minutes in the morning? An hour on Sunday? Your work? Your money? Your family? Your life? I have found that the longer I walk with God, the more of my life I want to commit to His care. Quite simply, He does a better job managing my life than I do!
The Hebrew word that is translated “commit” can also be translated “roll”. In other words, Solomon tells us to roll our works onto the LORD. As Peter wrote, “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
We may think that if we meditate on the right thoughts, then it will lead to the right actions. I believe this is true, but Solomon puts it a different way. If we will commit or roll our works onto God, praying for His wisdom, seeking His will, and doing the next thing, then He will establish our thoughts. He will put His desires in our hearts and help us to fulfill them.
Are there burdens you are bearing on your own? Are you carrying the weight of the world? We must be clear about what God has placed upon us and what we have taken on ourselves. The Lord’s yoke is easy, and His burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30). If we take His yoke upon us, and learn from Him, then we will find rest for our souls, and His peace will rule our hearts. If we then commit our works to Him, He will establish and order our thoughts according to His will. Remember...His will, done in His way, and in His time, will never lack His blessing!
