Proverbs 8:22-36
“Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.” (Proverbs 8:34, NKJV)
Our values determine our course in life. The world has its values that are passing away. Believers are encouraged in Scripture not to be conformed to the values of the world but to be transformed through the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). But how do we do this? If we have grown up in the values of the world, how do we shift gears? How do we change our thinking to the values of eternity?
Receiving Jesus Christ is the first step. This opens our eyes to spiritual truth. We are born again of the Spirit, and we become babes in this new life. But every baby must receive nutrition to grow. This does not come in huge, infrequent doses, but multiple times a day through mother’s milk. Likewise, we are told to crave the pure spiritual milk of the Word of God so that we may grow up in our salvation (1 Peter 2:2).
Change happens incrementally as we feed daily on the Word. Lies we believe are exposed through the light of Scripture and the Holy Spirit. Godly values are etched into our hearts, precept upon precept, line upon line. As we listen to wisdom, watching daily at her gates, we grow increasingly to be like Jesus.
Are we willing to sit at the Lord’s feet today? Are we willing to admit that we do not have all the answers? If we seek wisdom, we will find it. If we ask God for help, He will give it. He pours out His mercy, grace and help every day. Are we in the place where we can receive these things? Blessings arrive daily for those who watch, wait and listen.
