Proverbs 11

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.” (Proverbs 11:30, NKJV)

The Lord wants us to bear fruit. Fruit comes by abiding in Christ, for apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). What kind of fruit do we bear?

First, there is the fruit of the Spirit. This is the natural result of the Holy Spirit working in our lives, teaching us to deny sin and choose righteousness.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22–23, ESV)

Second, there is the fruit of good works.

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10, NKJV)

Third, there is fruit of winning souls. That is what Solomon addresses in the above verse. As God touches our heart, He makes us concerned for the salvation of others. We cannot stand by and say or do nothing while those around us perish. We pray and look for opportunities to tell others about Jesus.

I cannot bring anyone to Christ. Only the Father can do that (John 6:44). But I can bring Christ to others. I can try to do what Jesus would do. I can love as Jesus would love. And I can tell others about the One who came into the world to save then just as they are.

Are you bearing this fruit? It will be a tree of life to you, and especially to the souls you win for Christ!
