Ezekiel 47-48

“Then he said to me: ‘This water flows toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters the sea. When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed. And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes.’” (Ezekiel 47:8–9, NKJV)

One amazing feature of the millennial temple will be that a river flows out from beneath the door of the sanctuary. As this river flows eastward it will become increasingly deep. There will be many different fruit trees growing on both sides of the river, and their leaves will neither wither nor fall. There will always be fruit on their branches, and they will bring forth a new crop each month. The fruit will be for food and the leaves for healing. Moreover, when this river of living water reaches the Dead Sea, it will heal its waters so that the salty waters become fresh and pure. A great abundance of fish will live there, and life will flourish wherever this water goes.

This is such a beautiful picture of the living water of the Holy Spirit. Do you remember what Jesus said to the Samaritan woman?

“Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:13–14, NKJV)

Wherever the living water of God’s Spirit flows it brings newness of life. It satisfies us with food for our souls. It quenches our spiritual thirst. It brings healing to our brokenness. And it brings forth the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy and peace. How we need this living water! Thankfully, it is readily available to anyone who seeks it.

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37–38, NKJV)

Are there areas in your life that need new life? Perhaps a relationship that was once vibrant and loving has died. Maybe broken areas of your heart need healing. Would you like to experience more of the fruit of the Spirit in your life? Then come and drink of the living water that Christ alone provides!
