Song of Solomon 2:8-17

“Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.” (Song of Solomon 2:15, NIV)

As the Shulamite and her Beloved desire to be together for romance, they encounter obstacles to their love. These could be distractions—other pressing needs or the busyness of life. Perhaps other people threaten to separate them. Even their own selfishness can be little foxes that can ruin the intimacy and fruitfulness of their love. These foxes must be caught and banished from their vineyard for their love to bloom and grow.

We can easily apply this to our love relationship with Jesus. He desires to draw us closer to Himself.

“My beloved spoke, and said to me: ‘Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.’” (Song of Solomon 2:10, NKJV)

What destroys our intimacy with Him? Is it the pressing burdens and cares of life? Is it the desire for other things that we think are more exciting? Is it an unconfessed sin? Has unbelief or bitterness crept into our soul? These little foxes can ruin our connection with Him so that we are dry and fruitless.

What must we do? We must catch them and cast them out! We cannot let anything come between us and our Jesus. We must rise up and come away with Him, for He longs to see our face and hear our voice. After all, He is ours, and we are His.
