Isaiah 14:22-15:9

“The LORD of Heaven’s Armies has sworn this oath: ‘It will all happen as I have planned. It will be as I have decided.’” (Isaiah 14:24, NLT)

The people lived in constant terror because of the power and cruelty of the Assyrians. They were the world-dominating empire, and they seemed utterly invincible. But the Assyrian king was merely an instrument in the LORD’s hand, even though he did not know the LORD.

It is difficult for us to watch godless and arrogant people raised up who prosper. We wonder how they can get away with it—especially when the righteous are suffering. But God is sovereign in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever He wills (Daniel 4:17). He forms a plan and then carries it out. We may not understand what He is doing or why He is doing it, but we can rest assured that He is in control.

Therefore, it is foolish to resist His will, for who can stand against God? The best we can do is to seek to know His will and submit to it. The certainty we have is that God will carry out His good plan for our lives, and He is trustworthy…even when life hurts. The arrogant may seem to prosper, but they will soon vanish and be forgotten.

As we begin a new week, let us pray that God would reveal His sovereign plan and help us to walk in it by faith.
