Micah 7
“The faithful man has perished from the earth, and there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood. Every man hunts his brother with a net, that they may successfully do evil with both hands…” (Micah 7:2–3a, NKJV)
One doesn’t have to live long before seeing that people are broken. We are a pathetic bunch that does not do the good we want to do and does the evil we know is wrong. Welcome to the human condition! If we trust someone, we will soon be disappointed, for no one does good—no, not even one. So what do we do? If we leave our environment and go somewhere else, we find the same problems. We search for perfect people, as we are blind to our own imperfections.
“Therefore I will look to the LORD. I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.” (Micah 7:7, NKJV)
Micah understood that there was only one place he could look. Only God is perfect; only He is trustworthy; there is no one else like Him. The beautiful thing is that He blesses those who wait for Him. He reveals Himself to those who seek Him. He saves those who call upon His name. He hears the prayers of the broken and contrite. People will disappoint you, but God never fails those who trust in Him. When trials come our faith is tested, but if we wait upon Him, then He will deliver us in the right time.
“Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy.” (Micah 7:18, NKJV)
The LORD is just the kind of God that sinners need. He pardons sin, transgression, and iniquity because He delights in mercy. Because He is a good Father, He may allow us to suffer the consequences of our choices for a little while. He may let us experience pain, rejection or persecution so that we can identify with Christ's sufferings. But it is always with an eye to our wholeness and perfection. If we have sinned, we should never hesitate to ask for mercy from our loving Heavenly Father, because He delights to give mercy to everyone who calls upon Him in humility and truth.
