Outside of Eden

Outside of Eden, we see that Adam's sinful nature was passed down to his children. The LORD respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. God was not "playing favorites". He told Cain:

“If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” (Genesis 4:7)

God gave Cain the opportunity to repent before he did something he would later regret. God gives each of us the same opportunity.

Where is sin lying at your door, ready to pounce? How can you rule over it? Ask God for the power to do it.
