Zechariah 14
“And the LORD shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be ‘The LORD is one,’ and His name one.” (Zechariah 14:9, NKJV)
It is easy for us to grow accustomed to the status quo. We get used to life as usual and expect it to always be this way. But the Bible teaches us that one day Christ will return to judge the world and to establish His righteous kingdom forever. Then the prayers of the saints will be fulfilled, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
It is hard for us to imagine what it will be like when Jesus is King over all the earth. There will be no other gods or idols for the LORD will be one, and His name will be one. The name of Jesus will be on everyone’s lips in worship and adoration, in prayer and in blessing.
“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.” (Isaiah 11:6–9, NKJV)
Paul tells us that all creation groans with labor pains until this time when it is freed from bondage and brought into the glorious liberty of the children of God (Romans 8:20–22). This new age will transform the animal kingdom so that nothing will hurt nor destroy, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD.
But we don’t have to wait until then to know God. And we can enjoy Jesus Christ as our King today. God wants every believer to be full of His knowledge, and He wants us all to accept the Lordship of Christ. The more we receive this now, the more we will experience His eternal and abundant life even before He comes again.
In the meantime, we ought to always be looking up and expecting His coming. We must not let ourselves get weighed down with the cares, troubles, and sorrows of this life. These visible things are only temporary, but the unseen things are eternal. The new and glorious administration of our Lord is coming. Wait for it!
