Psalm 119:121-144
“It is time for the LORD to act, for your law has been broken.” (Psalm 119:126, ESV)
Yesterday, we began our Good News Club at Hillsdale Elementary School. Seventeen children attended. (We only had an average of six last year.) We also had the addition of the Ward sisters who attend our church and have undergone training with Child Evangelism Fellowship. The adults in the room marveled as these three girls connected with the children and presented the Gospel. Five children raised their hands to receive Christ!
As Lydia Ward shared the Gospel, she said that sin is anything we think, say or do that breaks God’s law and makes Him sad. She said that we have all sinned because we are born knowing how to sin. But God loved us so much that He sent His Son to die for us so that our sins could be forgiven. I sat and wondered how easy it is for children to receive the Gospel and how we must all become as little children.
Sometimes we look at the world and the hardness of people’s hearts and think that things are too far gone for God to move. But the truth is that when God’s law is broken it is time for him to act, for broken laws mean broken people, and God is among the broken.
“The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” (Psalm 34:18, NKJV)
Jesus did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance (Matthew 9:13). Have we thought, said or done anything to break God’s law? Have we grieved the Holy Spirit? Then the Gospel is for us. Jesus died to forgive us, and His blood is sufficient to wash away all of our sins. But the Gospel is also for others who have broken His commandments and are dealing with the consequences of pain, shame and blame. Yes, it is time for God to act, but He acts as we step out in faith and share the Good News with others.
