2 Kings 6:24-7:20
“So an officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, ‘Look, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?’” (2 Kings 7:2, NKJV)
These were dark days in Israel. Samaria was under siege by the Syrians, and the people were starving to death. They had even resorted to cannibalism! But King Joram, rather than blaming his own disobedience to the LORD’s covenant, blamed Elisha for their problems. He sent his officer ahead of him to behead the man of God. But before he arrived the LORD warned Elisha, so Elisha told one of the elders staying with him to shut the door and hold him tight.
When the king arrived, Elisha said:
“By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, six quarts of choice flour will cost only one piece of silver, and twelve quarts of barley grain will cost only one piece of silver.” (2 Kings 7:1, NLT)
This seemed utterly impossible, and the king’s officer expressed his unbelief: “If the LORD would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” But Elisha replied, “You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won’t be able to eat any of it!”
People of the world scoff at the promises of God. They don’t believe in the miraculous. They don’t believe in a God who can do anything. But sometimes people in the church share their unbelief. They lean on their own understanding rather than trusting in the LORD and His Word. They limit what God can do by their own unbelief. But every blessing of God comes by faith. In the case of this unbelieving officer, he would see the miraculous provision of God, but he would not participate in it.
Do you have a problem before you today that seems impossible to solve? Remember that there is nothing our God cannot do. Ask Him for a miraculous provision of grace and for the faith to receive it.
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20–21, NKJV)
