Exodus 10:1-20

“I’ve also done it so you can tell your children and grandchildren about how I made a mockery of the Egyptians and about the signs I displayed among them—and so you will know that I am the LORD.” (Exodus 10:2, NLT)

As God prepared the plague of locusts, He considered the Hebrew children. He told Moses that He was hardening Pharaoh’s heart, so that they could tell their children and grandchildren about the mighty things that the LORD did for them in Egypt.

God takes a great interest in the spiritual education of our children and grandchildren. His desire is that we should pass down our faith to the next generation. Forty years later, the book of Deuteronomy would be written with this purpose in mind: to remind the next generation going into the Promised Land of all that God did from the time they left Egypt until the time they entered the land of Canaan.

It is also interesting that with the plague of the locusts, Pharaoh offered his third compromise. The men could go into the wilderness to worship the LORD, but they must leave their children behind. Neither God nor Moses would accept this offer. Neither should we!

The devil will do everything he can to capture the hearts of our children. THIS IS WAR! But God has given us the means of protecting our children from the lawlessness of this age. It is to tell them about what God has done in the past so that they can trust Him in the present…and in the future. We must make every effort to share Bible stories and the Word of God with the next generation. And above all, we must model it for them.

How are we preparing our children and grandchildren to face the future world? Is our primary objective to help them walk with God?

Before God released the locusts, He revealed His plan to save the children. Let’s not allow our children to be devoured by the locusts of the flesh, the world, and the devil. Only the knowledge of God and His ways can deliver them.
