Exodus 30:34-31:18
“Look, I have specifically chosen Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts.” (Exodus 31:2–3, NLT)
My mother was a pianist who played in the Portland Youth Symphony. Later in life she developed her gift for cooking and won several awards. She opened a catering business and cooking school. She loved to entertain others. No one had to force her to do this; it was her passion; it was the way God made her.
The world recognizes that some are gifted in one area or another. People seek to develop and improve their talents. But God is the giver of talent. He bestows both natural and spiritual gifts to everyone as He determines.
In Exodus 31, we are introduced to the artisans whom God chose to construct the tabernacle and its furnishings. It is interesting that this is the first time in Scripture we read the phrase “filled with the Spirit.” It was not concerning a prophet, priest, or judge but in reference to an artist. God had gifted Bezalel and filled him with the Spirit in all manner of artistic workmanship. God chose him to make everything to the exact specifications He gave Moses on Mount Sinai.
God is able to use many different people with many different gifts. Do you know your gift? When do you experience the power of the Spirit helping you?
We just hosted a public outdoor event called Bash on the Grass where musicians, actors, speakers, skateboarders, craftsmen, bakers, cooks, medical and security personnel, and many other servants worked together to produce a showcase of the multicolored gifts of God—all in the name of Jesus. One artist, who attends our church, spent several hours painting a beautiful mural of a lion and a lamb. What so impressed me was how beautiful the body of Christ really is when we each bring our talent to the world and do the things God has graced us to do.
What do you do that blesses others? This is likely where God has gifted and called you. And if you depend on Him, this is where He will use you most effectively. There is no greater joy than this!
